The New Guy Premiere
pictures from the appearance

My friend Joey and I left around 4 o'clock, and we live about an hour from L.A. so we get there, park and i leave the poster and camera in the car 'cause I think hey its early, arrivals arent till around 7, so we go to the Theatre, and the guy we asked about the premier goes, "What premier?" So i almost died, my friend Joey isnt a big fan, so we decided to walk around the place, we go upstairs and there's the theatres, I was expecting arrivals at the main thing, but there's this line against the wall and im like omg damn there's a frickin line, so I ask and they're like yeah arrivals are here in about 30 min, so we go back to the car, get the poster and camera and im like runnin lol, and we get in line, and this lady goes "Where'd you get your tickets?" And im like umm i dont have'em yet, so Tha Answer, from here *the board* said he was going too, finally i saw him and he had tickets! I was like omg where'd you get'em and i guess some guy gave them a 2 person pass!, the guy had another one and i was like i'll buy it from you! and he said he didnt have anymore and he didnt really wanna sell it, he said i could go in with'em but i had my friend with me, finally i convinced him to go shopping and wait for me, he said okay. Oh and me and Tha Answer went to where the media was with my big ass bright poster lol, finally we saw Eliza and we freaked out!! We stood there for a few and i held me sign, this guy from from a magazine or something was like, wow big fans and he took a picture with us with our poster, then Eliza was doing interviews for EVER! She did like 4 or something and they were hella long, or seemed long, and then she saw us! She did like a double take thing youknow? And she waved, i waved back and she had this big ol grin like she didnt expect it, so we went back in and waited, finally she came in (Nate was there btw, he's so cute!) and we were like Eliza!! And she went over to us and my poster on one side said "Can I have a hug?" And she was like "Awww how sweet" and she gave me a hug and my friend took a pic and signed a pic for me and i gave her a letter, she said "thanks so much I'll read it later", and then she was like "I gotta go real quick but I'll come back, I promise" so she went to the bathroom with an entourage of like 4 people, then she finally came back and i took some pics, so finally the peopel tell us we have to go in, and we were like Eliza can Tha Answer have a pic?! And they were pushign her a lot like to get movin so she said "I'll come back with you guys after its over, I swear" and she said "i swear" in like a New York accent, it was so funny, So tha answer, his cousin, me and the guy go into the theatres, and its like a row saying "RESERVED Dushku" and i was like omg, so we sit down and we sat like 4th row from the front, eliza was right in the middle of the theatre with nate and his gf maybe? And Im holding up the sign and she waved again and smiled. So this radio station was there and they go "DJ qualls is here" and some cheered, and then they go "Eliza Dushku" they said it wrong, but we cheered so loud! it rocked, then it started, and i was like looking back at eliza half the time, the bikini scene was hilarious! When it came on, she got all embrassed and she like ducked, it was funny. So, right before it was over Tha Asnwer and i went outside to wait for her, but she tooki a long time, like everyone came out except her, so we go back in and she's like signing for everyone in there and pics, so we wait for a little bit and she goes "Wow all the guys are here tonight huh? Where the girls?" And Tha answers couxin and i go "Here we are!" And she laughed and said "there they are" these guys pushed in front of us, they were like 40 and Eliza was like "hold on let me guys these girls first" So we moved up and i was like "Eliza I think you frickin rock" and she laughed she goes "Wow she thinks I rock, that's great" so we took anotehr pic, and i asked her to sign my poster, she did, then my friend and tha answer took pics, and she signed for EVERYONE till there was no one left, she's so nice! Finally we left!

There were so many peopel who had no clue who she was, but they kept looking at my poster and were like whos "Eliza Doooshku" im like omg DUSHKU i was like She was in "Bring it on" and she was "Faith" and they're like OH!! she's here?!?! I was like uh, yeah. So anyway, we were leaving and there were a couple of guys spazzing going "Oh my God she's SO hot" i just laughed. Anyway, Eliza was a total sweetheart, and she is SO small omg, but she's the nicest person ever she looks so pretty face to face!!

Mall of America, Minnesota

We got to the Mall of America at about eleven-forty for a three-thirty signing. I had never been to a meet-and-greet on a weekday, I had no idea when the line would start, so we wanted to get there early. In '99, 11:40 would have meant No Tickets for Joy at Episode I.

We were at the Sam Goody store, because I thought that was where it was at. Still sick, remember, so I planned to sit and then sit and after that, I was going to sit some more. I was very busy, in the middle of all this sitting, when ginny came up and said that it was at the Sam Goody Rotunda. Things sure have changed since I was a kid.

There were five people waiting in the ropes ahead of us. This means our chances of getting to meet her were probably pretty good. Since ginny isn't Car Girl, I'm guessing she doesn't get to go to the Mall very often, so she was off buyin' it up. I was sitting and reading my book for Sociology.

Okay, I have to say something about the Rotunda here. They have two big screens, well, actually, eighteen little TVs that make up two big screens, and they kept playing the trailer for The New Guy, and the music video. Over and over again. And then some more. I think they were trying to brainwash us. And it was LOUD. It was like a device to make sure that you really wanted to meet Eliza. And the music video didn't even have the little thing in the corner so you could tell, like, who it was by. I think it was Outkast, because they're kind of Green Day-y, right? But it's gonna bug me.

Ginny sat down for good at about one-fifteen. She'd brought her portable DVD player, and she'd just gotten a stack of about forty Buffy VCDs from wisteria, so we had a cavalcade of choices. My pick was "Lie to Me". It's one of my favourite eps, even though Angel is really pasty and Spike isn't even in it that much. Her pick was "Hush". I laughed at that, because we couldn't hear the dialogue from the player very well because of the Rotunda speakers, and that's really not an issue with Hush. The guy that was sitting behind us liked our choices, too. ;)

At two-thirty-ish, some DJ from a radio station came out and started throwing t-shirts. I don't know why, but I really wanted a t-shirt. They weren't even pretty t-shirts, but I had to have. Maybe because it was free. I can't even imagine that I'd wear it. I'll probably give it to a Sister. Wait, I do kind of know why. I wanted Eliza to sign two things, and I figured if Item #2 was an official item from her movie, she'd be more likely to sign it.

More t-shirts. More excitement. Except not. We were sitting directly in front of the stage, and the guy kept wanting to show how far he could throw. He could have just flicked a wrist to give it to me, so I kept on not getting one.

The DJ kept teasing a "Geek to Chic" fashion show. I have no idea what this had to do with the movie, but whatever. Some model company wanting to show off it's ingenues. That happened at about three. Soo stupid. Not the models, because that would be mean, but the "Geek" outfits were so obvious. Like wearing mismatched socks, or having only one cuff of your jeans rolled up. That's not "Geek", that's just sloppy. And all the guys had on glasses with their outfits. That just ticked me off.

By the way, some of those outfits would have been the height of fashion in the 80's.

The accompanying music was "I'm Too Sexy" and "Vogue". Because those aren't obvious at all. Some of the "Chic" outfits were really dumb, too. Like when the guy comes out in a suit with a neon green (!) dress shirt, and his "date" was wearing a lime-green striped dress. They clashed! Shouldn't someone have been watching for that?

One of 'em looked like the Beek, too. He had a definite Beek-like quality.

FINALLY it was over. I really didn't like that DJ. He'd go "Well, we're almost ready to get started here! Yup, time for the fashion show!" "I'm told that DJ Qualls and Eliza Dushku are in the building!" Great. Because the Mall isn't big or anything. He mispronounced "Dushku" too. Not to put too fine a point on it, but he said it like "douche-ku." This one guy kept mouthing the correct pronunciation at him. Hee.

I was watching the TV cameras at this point. There were three of 'em, aimed towards Underwater World. I figured that's where they'd be coming from. And I was right!

Eliza is so small, y'all! She looked really great, though. She had an ivory peasant top. It was kind of like what Buffy was wearing in Afterlife. I was like, "Oh, no! She's still trying to be like Buffy!" But it looked good on her. And she's so pretty. Especially when she smiles. Didn't see a lot of that on Buffy. There she did more of the smirking.

They sat at the table on the stage, DJ Qualls had a hand-held camera and took a crowd shot. He said we were going to be on TV. I'm scared. Then, at last, the line started to move. The DJ laid out the rules: One item to be autographed per star, no pictures of, but not with the stars, and if you do, you must take a picture of both stars. I broke all of these rules, btw.

DJ is a bit of a tool, but nice. The order of the stars was DJ and then Eliza. I told ginny afterwards that that was probably because there was no way DJ could match the niche audience of Eliza, and if Eliza had been the first one to sign, a lot of people would have just gotten her and then skipped him. And dude. That would be harsh.

I was going to be very suave and collected when I met Her. "Thanks for doing Bring it On. I wouldn't have seen it if you hadn't been in it, and man, I would have been missing out. Many of my friends consider it the Best. Movie. Ever. And season three of Buffy is probably my favourite, and you and the Mayor are a big part of that." What I said was more like, "Wow! Dude! I love you! Eeeee!" I went totally fan-girl.

She was very nice, though. Gracious, too. She wanted nothing but to please us. I think I could have said, "would you jump up and down on one foot while singing from The Pirates of Penzance, please?" and she would have done it. But I wouldn't have asked that. Because that would have been dumb. She did say that the fact that she has an action figure freaks her out a bit, heh. I asked, "Yeah, why is it an Angel action figure? You were only on there like twice!" (Forgot about "Judgment", d'oh.) And then she said, "Well, I think it's because that's the one I did last. And, you know, Faith is still in prison in LA."

I pulled out the Bring it On DVD cover and liner notes, and told her to sign it where ever she wanted. That was dumb. I should have had her sign it next to her quote in the liner notes. Instead, she signed it on the inside on the cover. Where you can't see it, unless you pull out the cover. Sigh.

But, honestly, for me, it wasn't the autograph. It was just meeting her. Being in the same vicinity. Seeing her in person. Bragging rights, baby. She shook my hand! She smiled at me! She asked me my name! I got a picture with her! I got to hug her! She was so incredibly sweet! Yay!

Oh, it was also about making fox1013 my indentured slave. I was going to be coy, but I'm in too good a mood to keep my secret. I'd written down "Amy" and "Mmm, Faith" on a piece of paper, so she'd know what to write. After she signed mine, I told her that I had this friend who totally loved her. So much, that she even coined a phrase of adoration, and I knew she'd die of happiness (but, you know, in a good way) if I got an autograph for her with that on it. She was like, "Yeah! Totally!" She did it, and then asked what "Mmm, Faith" meant. I had no idea how to describe it. Mmm Faith just is, you know? I said something to the effect of, "you know. Just when Faith does something cool. It's 'Mmm'-worthy."

I could have babbled at her all day. I think Ginny eventually had to drag me away. I just remember a big-ass feeling of euphoria at that point. And her smiling away. At me. And she implored us to see her movie, and I said I would. And now I'll have to, dammit. Can't break a promise to her.

Are you all on the edges of your seats wondering what happened at The Metreon?

Well, basically, it turned into WaitInLineCon. With the excellent company of Amanda and Snagglepuss it was never boring, but it was quite a bit lower on the TackyAndDemeaning-O-Meter than I expected. We were all pretty embarrased to be there to begin with, and the vibe of the place didn't help.

We spent the better part of two hours waiting in the autograph line, occasionally interrupted by some marketing people screaming shrill fake "The New Guy" enthusiasm over an awful sound system, holding embarrassing "makeover" contests, etc. And they couldn't even pronounce Eliza's name.

When we finally got up to her, she was much more sweet and charming than any of us could ever have hoped to be after just having gone through the same thing with 200 other weirdos.

I realized the semi humiliating promotion work I've seen stars do on tv shows is only the most glamorous part of the job. Crap like this must be the regular grind for any up and coming star.

I had some cool dialogue and funny requests prepared, but when I got up there I just felt the whole thing was a bit too demeaning for the both of us, and I just asked for my autograph, my put-your-arm-around-the-barely-dressed-girl photo, and was out of there. I sure hope Amanda has those pictures developed by Tuesday...

And here is Queen E herself, signing Amandas (or possibly Snagglepuss') autograph.

Oh, and finally we went to the Starbucks across the street to stalk the Limo that was waiting for her. But after half an hour, it just disappeared. Probably snuck out behind some bus, so we missed that.

And there was some guy in a Spiderman suit, cane and old mans cardigan and hat walking around pretending to be a 100 year old Spiderman, but I better stop rambling...

Yep, that's pretty much the whole story. After some horrible, horrible traffic getting there that put me in a bad mood, another 2 hours of line-waiting lay ahead of me. Thankfully, Gorimek (Lars) and Snagglepuss were there to entertain me throughout. Not to mention the fake "makeover" guys were good for a laugh too.

Eliza was just the sweetest thing, shaking our hands and introducing herself to each of us. She had a nice, firm handshake! (I'm never gonna wash this hand again!) She signed my season 3 videos (Gorimek advised me against the season 1 dvds, cause, well, obviously, Faith wasn't in them) and Snagglepuss's magazine. It was a one-picture, one-autograph affair, but I managed to sneak in 3 or 4 photos, I think.

She wasn't wearing leather pants of evil (damn it!), but she did look great in her so-tight-I-can-barely-breathe jeans and barely-there top. And as if she wasn't so damn hot on screen already, she was absolutely gorgeous in person. I swear, she's the hottest girl I've ever met in real life, really is.

Afterwards, the three of us settled down across the street at Starbucks, hoping to stalk Eliza. But coffee, salad, engaging conversation, and freakishly big buses caused us to miss the limo. Damn those celebrities and their disappearing limo acts!

I met Eliza Dushku at the meet and greet at the Sony Metreon. I took the day off work, to make sure I could;)

I arrived at 12:30 to make sure I'd be somewhere around the front. It turns out I was 5th in line. Eliza actually got there around 1:00 and was taking pictures and signing autographs for those that could find her. She was on the roof taking pictures for the local rags. Many people brought their own pictures for her to sign which to me is a good idea, since the one from the new guy is very grainy. Heh, she's still gorgeous in it though.

At about 3:15, she arrived downstairs for the the line people. They let small groups forward to stand close to her glory and tell her small stories and get autographs. I was in that first group. She was up front with her best friend from Boston. He was an extremely skinny guy, but sure looked proud of his friend. Gee, how can I become that friend?

What surprised me was how extremely beautiful she is in person. I mean, I knew she was beautiful, but when you see her in person, it's almost like she's not human. More like an angel. She is totally fat free, has tiny bird like features, and reeks of sex appeal. Two guys behind me, were a little vocal about that last part. I never really noticed how tiny she was until that day.

For those interested, she was wearing tiny hip hugger jeans, and a tiny but low cut tan top. She had her trademark lipstick on, and was all smiles, ALL SMILES.

Just before I got up to see her, her manager told her to sign only 1 autograph for each person because the line was long. When I got to the front, I asked if she'd sign an extra one for my sister, who's also a big fan, but in Wisconsin. She did, and took a picture with me. In our picture pose, she put her arm around me. I was in heaven;)

Afterwards I thanked her, and she thanked me and asked me to see her movie. As if that was even in question!

I'll send you my picts when they develop. Maybe at another meet & greet, I'll get her to sign the picture of us.

I caught up with Eliza at her Gameworks appearance in Miami. There was about a handful of people that actually knew her, the rest happened to wander by the area and spot the free food and t-shirts, you gotta love freeloaders. I actually saw a family or two drop by with five year old kids, load up on an abundance of nourishment and exit, it was hilarious. Anyway my friends and I ended up waiting for almost an hour because they were filming an interview or something on the top floor. It was annoying as hell 'cause she was in this office surrounded by glass and every time they moved her around you could glimpse a flash of her dress or her face. They had some guy handing out advanced screening tickets (for "The New Guy" on May 6th) and other goodies to sweeten the blow though.

When she finally showed up they got her on the microphone, which caused quasi-pandemonium among some of the overzealous fans. She greeted us with the usual, thanked everyone for coming and announced that she had to leave in 10 minutes. She was wearing a white dress, kinda formal for the situation. She has this minuscule frame and the cutest dimples, but her voice sounded *so* different (probably hoarse from chatting, dunno).

With the words,"Is there like a thing going on over here?" she sat down behind the official autograph table and the first group of girls that swamped her shucked out DVDs (Bring It On) and posters and whatnot for her to brand. There was a point where this guy had her sign like 10 items, including almost every single page of her Maxim session, and they stopped him and apologized because he was taking up all of the valuable signature time. So finally I stepped up to her--enter the mumbling idiot-- held out the glossy pics they had passed around. She said,"Hi." And I kinda stumbled through my name without failure. "Sorry I can't stay longer," or "Sorry, I'm in such a rush," whatever, something emphasizing her sorrow for not being able to stay later followed her enthusiastic greeting.

And I muttered something between,"S'okay," and "Uh huh." I could shoot myself, really, I'm such a spaz.

I retreated with the autograph while she called out,"Thank you so much!"

My Mom (she did the whole driving thing, it bites being a minor) stood by Eliza the whole time playing photographer. She took about fifty pics, ordering them around to get good shots, she has no shame whatsoever. It sucked 'cause my camera had run out of juice when I needed it, freaking' piece of crap, hence no pics. But by the time I got up to the stand they had asked for everyone to stop taking them. It was all very surreal because of the unbelievably rapid pace in which things were orchestrated (I guess she was running late).

Five minutes later she stormed out of Gameworks with her entourage. Point proven, she's real.

Meeting Eliza Dushku was the best day of my life! I went with my friends to Gameworks at Sunset Place after school and we were there about 2 hours early. When she came, she went up the first set of stairs and we got to see her on the way up. She waved at me three times and she blew me a kiss. When she came down to sign autographs, she dubbed me one of her greatest fans and she loved my Faith t-shirt that I got as a surprise Christmas present last year. The picture that she was signing was a frame from the movie where she is riding the mechanical bull. She personalized everyone's picture including mine and my shirt that she also signed. My friends and I all got pictures with her and I got an indtroduction from her. She was the nicest person I've ever met and I love her even more! (More and more every day!)

I just found out that the appearance at the Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara was cancelled. So I ended up going alone to San Francisco and it was well worth it. I arrived at the Metreon around 2:45pm. Eliza didn't arrived until around 3:10pm. Live 105's Sabrina introduced Eliza to the crowd. Everyone was cheering for Eliza said I love you. Then one by one fans got to take a picture and signature from her. When it was my turn to meet Eliza, I got out my Maxim mag for her to sign and I was so happy. Even thought she didn't spell my name correct it was ok with me :) Eliza first asked me what's your name? Then I shooked her hand, I then asked her how come the appearance at the Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara was cancelled since I'm from San Jose? She said she missed her flight in Miami and later said I'm sorry.

One of her people took the picture of Eliza and I. A lot of kids were they just getting off from school plus everyone at the Metreon were they for the Spider-Man movie. Some guy that dressed up like Spider-Man took pictures with people passing by and I thought that was funny. So I hope to send my picture later when I develop it soon maybe next week.

I would like to thank the person that posted Eliza's promotional schedule for "The New Guy". She was in Detroit at Great Lakes Crossings yesterday and I was able to get out of work early to make it. Three of my friends and I went and we each got a t-shirt from the movie and an autograph.

I have to say I was surprised by how she looked in real life. She is very beautiful, but a lot shorter than I thought she would be. She was nice and outgoing, very friendly with everyone. She signed a lot of autographs, and posed for many pictures with her fans. The DJ from the radio station who sponsored the event was cautioning everyone that she didn't have time to have pictures taken with each of her fans, but Eliza continued to agree to pictures. In fact when I got to the front of the line, she offerred to have my friend take a photo of the two of us.

I've always heard that she was very nice to her fans, and I have to say that she totally lived up to that reputation.

I saw Eliza at the mall, hosting the "Geek to Chic" makeover event. She arrived a little late...but the contest was still way awesome. She is so pretty and her outfit was really cute. Just seeing her in person was unbelievable...and weird...when your so used to only seeing her on tv or in magazines. I immediately took pictures of her and my whole roll of film was of her. She was really sweet and gave me 2 autographs. I got a picture of me taken with her. Hopefully I'll get a scanner and scan the pics..:-D

I heart Eliza!!

Ahhh! I met her tooo! Wow.

Today, at 4:15 pm..I met Eliza. I know, I know. I'm overeacting. But honestly, she is my favorite celebrity. So I was very, very excited to meet her.

She's not a big person. In fact, she's kinda small. Her smile is SO pretty. She has a voice like a Boston girl grown up and "civilized". She's beautiful like you can't even imagine. And the nicest person you could ever meet. Before I even said a word she smiled and me, and said hey. If I wasn't as cool as I am, I woulda been speechless. I forked over my Maxim with her on the cover, she smiled at it and me, recognizing my status as a girl and wondering why I'm carrying Maxim. Lol. When she was posing for a picture for the people before me, her shirt ( as she put it ) was falling off..(Louis Vuitton Summer 2002 peasent shirt btw.) She turned to me and smirked, and said "Wow..my shirt is falling off." I said..nonchalantly.."I really don't think anybody minds." She smiled, laughed (in her oh so hot throaty laugh ;) ;) and said, "You think so?" and smirked again. Wow. She signed my Maxim, and smiled at me, and took pictures. She touuuuched me. (-already realized I'm a pathetic, path! etic freak. No need to tell me, k?-)

Anyway. Yeah. Wow. Total Eliza-ness.

Bottom line:

Shes incredibly friendly, charasmatic, beautiful, nice, soft, she smells good, she looks good. But more than that shes the nicest chick ever. And I got to meet her. Score!

I met Eliza today!!!!! <*breaks out inTHE most enthusiastic, Eliza-lovin' dance of Joy ever seen!>

As part of the promotional campaign for the theatrical release of "The New Guy," radio stations across the country are sponsoring "Geek to Chic" contests. Today was Boston's turn! (Actually... I think this is where it's all been kicked off from.) There was a really good turnout, (being Eliza's "home town" and all)(Okay, technically it was in Cambridge which is right next door to her hometown of Watertown... both of which are next door neighbours of Boston. <*wink>)(I'm babbling aren't I... sorry) high spirits all around, and that wasn't even dampened by the crappy weather or Eliza arriving twenty minutes late. (Thanks to the non-joys of 'Beantown' traffic. <*s>)

I can honestly say she is one of THE nicest people I have *ever* met. She's warm, funny (a wonderful self deprecating sense of humour), incredibly gracious, and (if possible)(No...cancel that... it's a fact! <*wink>) even MORE beautiful in person. Her Mom came with her and it was pretty easy to see where she gets her humour and generous nature from. ^_^ She took the time to chat with everyone who went up for a picture & autograph and, as an indication of just how NON big headed she is, one of the DJ's was getting people's names before they stepped up. He'd then pass it along to Eliza so that she could be signing the pic or whatever while she chatted. And each and *every* time, she'd introduce herself! "Hi <insert name here>, I'm Eliza." LOL No "fame assumptions" what-so-ever... I really rather admired that! :-) And the BEST part of the day? (At least for me) I got an Eliza Hug!!!! <*swoons... with mega-grin now permanently affixed to face>

The only downer of the day occurred when an over enthusiastic dude smacked right into me (I'm wicked short and tend to be literally over looked at times ) causing me to drop my camera... no breakage (I think) but the back opened so I'm pretty sure quite a few pics got exposed and thusly ruined. >:-( However, I'd brought an extra, crappy little digital camera along as well, just so I'd have *some* "instant piccie gratification!" (Major 'Phew' on that!) Hopefully I'll still get some from the other camera as well. <*crosses all crossable appendages> <*wink> At any rate, the quality isn't that great but I made a quick little montage... or triptych...or whatever <*shrugs>:

http://www.geocities.com/wlfgrrl/ElizaBoston1.jpg

Hopefully that'll work. Btw, in the bottom frame, the woman holding the purse is Eliza's Mom. :-)
